About Salix kusanoi (Hayata) C.K.Schneid.

Salix kusanoi (Hayata) C.K.Schneid. is a willow species belonging to the family Salicaceae. This species is endemic to Taiwan and is currently threatened by habitat loss. It is a deciduous tree that grows to 7 meters (23 feet) in height. Its leaves are arranged alternately, reaching 9 cm long and 4 cm wide, with finely serrated margins and glands. Both sides of the leaves are green and covered in dark orange fine hairs. The hairs on the underside of the leaves are more prominent, and can be easily wiped away. Flowers emerge in early spring, before new leaves develop. Salix kusanoi is dioecious, meaning male and female catkins grow on separate individual plants. Male catkins measure 8 to 9 cm long, while female catkins reach 3 cm long.
