About Salix humboldtiana Willd.
Salix humboldtiana Willd. can be evergreen or deciduous, depending on the climate it grows in. This species can reach a maximum height of 25 meters, and has a narrow triangular or columnar crown. The trunk can grow up to 80 cm in diameter at breast height, and has dark brown to gray fissured bark. It produces narrow lanceolate leaves that grow up to 15 cm long; these leaves have a serrated margin and are light green, and turn yellow in autumn when the species grows in temperate climates. It bears catkins that are 4 to 10 cm long. Male catkin flowers are yellowish green, have an ovate-lanceolate bract, and six stamens, while female flowers are green. The natural distribution of Salix humboldtiana ranges from central Mexico to southern Chile and Argentina. It grows in areas with tropical, subtropical, and temperate climates, at elevations from near sea level up to 3,300 metres (10,800 ft).
