About Salix helvetica Vill.
Salix helvetica, commonly called the Swiss willow, is a scrubby willow species. It occurs in the Alps at elevations between 1,700 and 2,700 m, and in the Tatras portion of the western Carpathians at elevations between 1,600 and 2,000 m. This species is a naturally dwarf, erect shrub that reaches 50 cm (20 in) in both height and width. Its leaves have silvery undersides, and silvery catkins emerge at the same time that the leaves appear. Salix helvetica has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
