About Salix eriocephala Michx.
Salix eriocephala Michx., commonly called heart-leaved willow or Missouri River willow, is a willow species native to much of temperate North America, covering large parts of the United States and Canada. This species most often grows as a multi-trunked narrow shrub or small tree, reaching a maximum height of 20 feet (6.1 meters). Its bark is dark gray and scaly, and it bears thick lance-shaped leaves that are hairy on their lower surfaces. Silky catkins emerge before new leaves develop in early spring.
