About Sagittaria trifolia L.

Sagittaria trifolia L., commonly called threeleaf arrowhead or Chinese arrowhead, is a plant species that grows widely across wet areas in Europe and much of Asia. It is native to Ukraine, European Russia, Siberia, the Russian Far East, Central Asia, China, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Philippines, and many smaller countries located between these regions. It has also become naturalized in Fiji, the Cook Islands, and the Society Islands in the Pacific. This species produces underground tubers, and is cultivated as a food crop in parts of Asia. Its tubers are high in starch and very nutritious. One cultivar of this plant is known as kuwai in Japan.
