About Sagittaria teres S.Watson

Sagittaria teres S.Watson, commonly called quill-leaved arrowhead or slender arrowhead, is an aquatic plant species belonging to the genus Sagittaria. This species is a perennial herb that reaches up to 80 centimetres (31 inches) in height. Its leaves are capable of growing both submerged under water and emergent above the water surface. The plant produces white flowers that grow up to 1.5 cm (1⁄2 in) in diameter. These flowers are arranged in one or more whorls on a stalk that extends above the plant’s leaves. Sagittaria teres is native to the northeastern United States, where it occurs in Rhode Island (Providence and Washington Counties), Massachusetts, New Hampshire (Hillsborough County), New York (Suffolk County) and New Jersey. It grows on the shores of lakes, in marshes, and in other wetland habitats, and is frequently found in wetlands with acidic water, such as Sphagnum bogs.
