This species is a perennial herb that reaches up to 80 centimetres (31 inches) in height. Its leaves are capable of growing both submerged under water and emergent above the water surface. The plant produces white flowers that grow up to 1.5 cm (1⁄2 in) in diameter. These flowers are arranged in one or more whorls on a stalk that extends above the plant’s leaves.
