About Sagittaria papillosa Buchenau

Sagittaria papillosa, commonly called nipplebract arrowhead, is a perennial plant species that can grow up to 120 centimetres (47 inches) tall. Its petioles are triangular in cross-section, and its leaf blades range from very narrowly elliptical to ovate in shape, and are not lobed. This species can be distinguished from other species in the Sagittaria genus by the presence of nipple-like bumpy outgrowths called papillae on its flower bracts. Sagittaria papillosa is native to the south-central United States, where it occurs in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi. It grows in wet habitats including marshes, lake banks, and the banks of slow-moving streams.
