The cap of Russula rhodocephala is red, and measures roughly 4 to 12 centimeters in diameter. When young, the cap has a round or convex shape, and matures to become broadly convex or flat. The gills of this mushroom may be white or yellowish, and are either adnexed or adnate. The stipe is pink, ranging 2.5 to 7 centimeters long and 1 to 2.5 centimeters wide. The spore print of Russula rhodocephala is pale yellow or cream-colored.
