About Russula decolorans (Fr.) Fr.
This mushroom species, Russula decolorans (Fr.) Fr., has a cap that ranges from convex to flat or depressed in shape, with colors from red to orange. When moist, the cap surface is viscid, and it can reach up to 15 centimetres (6 inches) wide. Its stalk grows up to 12 cm (4+3โ4 inches) long. The gills are pale initially, become yellowish, and may sometimes stain grayish. The flesh is white, turns black when bruised, and has a mild taste and odour. The spore print of this species is pale ochre.
Russula decolorans grows either alone or in groups, in mixed woods and underneath conifer trees. It is an edible mushroom that is commonly harvested for food in Finland. However, eating wild specimens is not recommended, because the species has several lookalikes with unknown edibility.
