About Russula clelandii O.K.Mill. & R.N.Hilton
Russula clelandii is a fungus species belonging to the family Russulaceae. This species is found in Australia, and was formally described as new to science in 1987. Its fruitbodies grow on the ground in mixed woodlands made up of jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) and karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor); researchers suspect it forms ectomycorrhizae with these two tree species. The morphology of its fruitbodies is similar to that of the North American fungus species Russula mariae. Its specific epithet is named to honour John Burton Cleland, an Australian naturalist.
