About Runcinia insecta (L.Koch, 1875)

Runcinia insecta (L.Koch, 1875) is a species of spider belonging to the family Thomisidae. It is a common species with a very wide natural distribution across the Afrotropical, Oriental, and Palaearctic regions, and it has been introduced to Australia. Its overall distribution covers the entire range of Africa and Asia, with an introduced presence in Australia. In South Africa, this species has been recorded from all provinces except Northern Cape. Runcinia insecta are free-living organisms that live on plants. In South Africa, they are most commonly found on grass in the Forest, Fynbos, Grassland, Indian Ocean Coastal Belt, and Savanna biomes, at altitudes between 7 and 1,842 meters above sea level. The species has also been collected from cotton, lucerne, and strawberry fields.
