About Rubus illecebrosus Focke
Rubus illecebrosus Focke is a red-fruited species in the Rubus genus. It is native to Japan, where it is known as ใใฉใคใใด, which literally translates to "roseberry". It is also very popular in some European countries, including Lithuania. Its common names are balloon berry and strawberry raspberry. The species has become sparingly naturalized in scattered locations across Canada, the United States, and South America. Rubus illecebrosus is a thorny shrub that grows up to 150 cm (5 ft) tall. Its leaves are pinnately compound. Flowers grow either singly or in clusters of 2 to 3; each flower has 5 petals up to 18 mm (23โ32 in) long, longer than the petals of most related species. The fruits are unusually large for the Rubus genus; each is oblong, red, and up to 2 cm (3โ4 in) long, containing 50 to 100 drupelets.
