It is native to most of Europe, the Atlas Mountains of Africa, the Caucasus region, Turkey, Lebanon, and Syria. It has also been introduced to eastern North America, Argentina, and New Zealand. This species is a shrub that can grow to 3.5 metres (11 feet) tall, and it is not readily available for commercial purchase.
