About Romanzoffia sitchensis Bong.
Romanzoffia sitchensis Bong. is a flowering plant species in the Hydrophyllaceae family, commonly called Sitka mistmaiden. It is native to western North America, ranging from Alaska through British Columbia and Alberta, extending south to far northern California and east to Montana. This species grows in moist, rocky habitats, including mountain cliffsides. It grows in an erect form, reaching 20 centimeters tall, and occasionally up to 30 centimeters. The base of its stem is widened where the overlapping petioles of its leaves emerge. Its leaf blades are somewhat rounded or oval, with notched lobes along the edges. The inflorescence is a loose, curving or drooping cyme of flowers, with each flower borne on a small, erect pedicel. Each flower has a bell- or funnel-shaped corolla that may be just over a centimeter long. The corolla sits within a calyx made up of narrow, thin sepals. The corolla is white, and usually has a yellow throat. The fruit it produces is a capsule under one centimeter in length.
