About Romanzoffia californica Greene

Romanzoffia californica is a species of flowering plant in the Hydrophyllaceae family. Its common name is California mistmaiden. It is native to Oregon and northern California, where it grows in moist and wet habitats including coastal bluffs and mountain forests. This plant grows upright to a maximum height of 40 centimeters (16 inches), growing from a network of hairy brown tubers. A cluster of leaves grows around the base of the plant; each leaf has a rounded, evenly lobed leaf blade, carried on a petiole several centimeters long. The inflorescence is a curving cyme, with each individual flower held on a small, erect pedicel. Each flower has a funnel-shaped corolla that may be just over one centimeter long, which sits within a calyx made of pointed sepals. The corolla is white, with a yellow throat. The fruit is a capsule that can reach up to one centimeter in length.
