About Rivula propinqualis Guenée, 1854

Rivula propinqualis, commonly known as the spotted grass moth or yellow snout-moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. Achille Guenée first described this species in 1854. Its distribution covers much of eastern North America, ranging from southern Canada south to Florida and Texas. In the northern part of its range, it extends west to British Columbia and Washington. Within North Carolina, it occurs from the Appalachian Mountains east to the Atlantic coast. This moth has a wingspan of 15 to 19 mm. Adult moths are active from May to August each year. The larvae of Rivula propinqualis feed on a wide variety of grasses.
