About Ricinocarpos pinifolius Desf.
Ricinocarpos pinifolius Desf. is a small shrub, reaching 1 to 3 meters (3 feet 3 inches to 9 feet 10 inches) in height and 1 to 2 meters (3 feet 3 inches to 6 feet 7 inches) in width. It has smooth branches and smooth, narrow leaves that measure 1 to 4 centimeters (0.39 to 1.57 inches) long and 1 to 3 millimeters (0.039 to 0.118 inches) wide. Leaf margins may be rolled downwards or backwards, and leaves are attached to a petiole roughly 3 millimeters (0.12 inches) long. Flower clusters grow in leaf axils, and typically hold 3 to 6 male flowers and 1 female flower. The peduncle is 10 to 20 millimeters (0.39 to 0.79 inches) long. Sepals are 3 to 4 millimeters (0.12 to 0.16 inches) long. Petals are usually white, egg-shaped, 10 to 15 millimeters (0.39 to 0.59 inches) long, and stamens are yellow. The calyx is 3 to 4 millimeters (0.12 to 0.16 inches) long, and almost the same length as the petals. The seed capsule is roughly spherical, about 12 millimeters (0.47 inches) in diameter, and thickly covered in spines. This species, commonly called wedding bush, grows in sandy soils in heath and open forests. It is found mostly in coastal locations across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory.
