About Rhynchospora rubra (Lour.) Makino

Rhynchospora rubra (Lour.) Makino is a species in the sedge family Cyperaceae. This species is distributed across Asia, Australia, and western and southern Africa. Individuals grow to a height between 25 and 100 centimeters. It has a distinctive spherical spikelet located at the end of its stem, a characteristic it shares with Rhynchospora holoschoenoides. The two species can be distinguished by their spikelet arrangement: R. rubra has no spikelets growing on multiple branches, and only bears a single spikelet on its central stem.
