About Rhynchospora inexpansa (Michx.) Vahl
Rhynchospora inexpansa (Michx.) Vahl is a tufted, cespitose perennial plant. It grows to heights between 30 and 120 cm (12 to 47 inches). It has flexuous stems that droop at the tip; its arching, drooping culms are slender and ribbed. Its leaves exceed the length of the culms. The leaf blades are either ascending or spreading, measure 2–3.5 mm (0.079–0.138 in) wide, and have a trigonous, tapering apex. Its inflorescences are made up of clusters of three to six spikelets, with clusters spaced progressively further apart from each other. The spikelets themselves are narrow and elongated. The leafy bracts associated with the clusters are slender and extend longer than the clusters. The spikelets are reddish brown and lanceoloid, with acuminate apices, and measure 5–7 mm (0.20–0.28 in) long. The flowers have six perianth bristles that extend past the tubercle and are antrorsely barbellate. Each spikelet holds two to three brown fruits, which are 3–3.2 mm (0.12–0.13 in) long and have a wavy rugose surface. This species fruits from June to October.
