About Rhynchospora colorata (L.) H.Pfeiff.
Rhynchospora colorata, which is also called starrush whitetop, white star sedge, and white-topped sedge, is a perennial flowering plant belonging to the sedge family. This plant has white bracts, which create the appearance of white petals with long green points. It is native to southeastern North America: in the United States, its range extends from Virginia west to New Mexico, and it also grows southward into the Caribbean islands. Its inflorescence is a dense cluster of small spikes, and each spike holds several tiny flowers. The inflorescence sits at the top of 3 to 10 green and white bracts that reach 10 to 15 cm in length. These bracts closely resemble leaves, but the plant's actual leaves grow from its base.
