About Rhododendron yedoense Maxim. ex Regel
Rhododendron yedoense Maxim. ex Regel, commonly called the Korean azalea, has the scientific synonym Rhododendron poukhanense. It is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Ericaceae. It has a disjunct native distribution across four locations: northern Myanmar, Yunnan province in China, South Korea, and northern Kyushu island of Japan. This species is hardy in USDA plant hardiness zones 4 through 9. It is often recommended for use as a hedge, and it has above-average resistance to the root rot disease that commonly affects azaleas. The variety Rhododendron yedoense f. poukhanense is a major contributing parent to many modern hybrid azalea varieties.
