About Rhododendron pseudochrysanthum Hayata
Rhododendron pseudochrysanthum Hayata, commonly called false-gold-flower rhododendron, has the Chinese name 阿里山杜鵑, pinyin Ālǐshān dùjuān, which translates to 'Alishan azalea'. It is a species of flowering plant in the heath family Ericaceae, native to Taiwan. This low-growing evergreen shrub reaches 2.5 m (8.2 ft) in both height and width. In spring, it produces trusses of pink buds that open into pale pink flowers, marked with deeper pink spots on their inner surfaces. When cultivated in the UK, this species has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It is hardy to temperatures as low as −20 °C (−4 °F). Like most rhododendrons, it needs a sheltered location with dappled shade, and acidic soil enriched with leaf mould.
