This species of mushroom has the scientific name Rhizomarasmius pyrrhocephalus (Berk.) R.H.Petersen. Its cap is orange in color, and measures 1โ€“2.5 centimetres (1โ„2โ€“1 in) wide. The stipe is black, rooted, and covered in velvety hairs, and can grow up to 9 cm (3+1โ„2 in) long. It has adnate gills and produces a white spore print, traits that are similar to species in the genus Marasmius. It is known primarily from eastern North America. It fruits from May to October, growing on leaf litter and wood.
