About Rhinotropis subspinosa (S.Watson) J.R.Abbott
Rhinotropis subspinosa, also known by the synonym Polygala subspinosa, is a species of flowering plant in the milkwort family. Its common name is spiny milkwort. It is native to the southwestern United States, where it grows in desert and plateau habitats. It is a perennial herb or small shrub that grows in a clump reaching a maximum height of 25 centimeters. Its stems have woody bases, and its green branches end in thorns. Its leaves grow up to 3 centimeters long, and are generally oval in shape. Its flowers have pairs of bright pink, wing-like sepals, and the keeled central petal is tipped with a yellowish beak that is sometimes fringed at the tip.
