About Rhamnusium bicolor (Schrank, 1781)

Rhamnusium bicolor is a species of beetle belonging to the family Cerambycidae. It has a wide distribution across Europe. The species was first formally described in 1781 by German biologist Franz von Paula Schrank, who lived from 1747 to 1835. Adult Rhamnusium bicolor beetles measure between 12 and 24 millimeters, which is equal to 0.47 to 0.94 inches, in body length. Adults fly between the months of May and June. The species has a development cycle that lasts 2 to 3 years. Eight subspecies of Rhamnusium bicolor are currently accepted: Rhamnusium bicolor constans Danilevsky, 2012; Rhamnusium bicolor demaggii Tippmann, 1956; Rhamnusium bicolor graecum Schaufuß, 1862; Rhamnusium bicolor italicum Müller, 1966; Rhamnusium bicolor juglandis Fairmaire, 1866; Rhamnusium bicolor lenkoranum Danilevsky, 2012; Rhamnusium bicolor praeustum Reitter, 1895; and Rhamnusium bicolor testaceipenne Pic, 1897.
