About Retinia resinella (Linnaeus, 1758)

Retinia resinella (Linnaeus, 1758) has a wingspan that ranges from 16 to 22 mm. Adult moths are active in flight from May to June each year. Its larvae live inside the shoots of Pinus sylvestris, and their presence prompts the formation of a resin gall on the plant. The full developmental cycle of this species takes two years to complete. This species is distributed across a range extending from Europe, through eastern Russia, to China (specifically the provinces of Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia), and Japan.
