About Rapala arata Bremer, 1864
Rapala arata, commonly called the Japanese flash, is a butterfly species that belongs to the Lycaenidae family. This species can be found in the Russian regions of Amur, Ussuri, Sakhalin and the southern Kuriles, as well as in north-eastern China, Korea, and Japan. Its natural habitat includes brook banks, meadows, and the edges of montane mixed forests. The forewings of adult Rapala arata measure between 14 and 17 mm in length. In the southern portion of its range, adults are active from late May to late August, producing two generations each year. In the northern portion of its range, only one generation is produced annually, with adults active during June. The larvae of Rapala arata feed on plant species from the families Fabaceae, Saxifragaceae, Ericaceae, Rhamnaceae, and Fagaceae.
