Raoulia tenuicaulis Hook.fil. is a small shrub that grows in mats on river beds. It can form mats that reach up to 1 meter across. This species is found throughout New Zealand, occurring on both the North Island and the South Island. It grows best in stony riverbeds in both montane and lowland regions. It is not classified as threatened across its native range. Ecologically, Raoulia tenuicaulis is known to act as a host plant for Cuscuta epythymum.
