About Ranunculus pygmaeus Wahlenb.
Ranunculus pygmaeus, commonly known as the pygmy buttercup or dwarf buttercup, is a species of buttercup. It has a widespread distribution across the Arctic, and also grows in the mountains of Norway and the Rocky Mountains. Small additional populations are found in the Eastern Alps and the Tatra Mountains. This is a small plant with a prostrate-ascending growth habit, reaching 1–5 cm in height. Its stems each bear a single flower, and it produces numerous basal leaves. The leaves are deeply cleft into 3 to 5 lobes. Its flowers measure 5–6 mm in diameter, with five pale yellow petals and five hairy sepals. After flowering finishes, the stems lengthen considerably, extending far above the basal leaves. It typically grows in snowbeds, moss carpets, and other moist locations.
