About Ranunculus flammula L.

Ranunculus flammula L., commonly known as lesser spearwort, greater creeping spearwort, or banewort, is a species of perennial herbaceous plant in the buttercup genus Ranunculus. It grows in damp habitats across the Boreal Kingdom, and flowers in June and July. This species is poisonous. It is very closely related to Ranunculus reptans, which is distinguished by prostrate, more slender stems, narrower leaves, and smaller flowers. R. reptans is sometimes included within Ranunculus flammula sensu lato as the variety R. flammula var. reptans (L.) E. Meyer. Along with other pollination methods, this plant is adapted to rain-pollination.
