About Ranunculus aconitifolius L.
Ranunculus aconitifolius, commonly called aconite-leaf buttercup or bachelor's buttons, is a flowering plant species in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae, native to central Europe. This herbaceous perennial grows 60 cm (24 in) tall and 40 cm (16 in) wide. It bears slightly hairy palmate leaves that grow up to 20 cm (8 in) long, and produces loose panicles of white, saucer-shaped flowers in spring. This clump-forming species sometimes grows into large colonies, found in moist mountain areas, meadows, and along the edges of ditches and streams. The Latin specific epithet aconitifolius translates to "with leaves resembling aconite", which refers to the related monkshood genus Aconitum. The double-flowered cultivar Ranunculus aconitifolius 'Flore Pleno', commonly known as fair maids of France or fair maids of Kent, has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
