About Rainiera stricta (Greene) Greene

Rainiera stricta (Greene) Greene is an herbaceous perennial plant that produces both basal and cauline alternate leaves with petioles. It forms 30 to 70 discoid heads arranged in a raceme-like or thyrse-like capitulescence. Each head holds approximately 5 disk florets, which have yellow corollas that are sometimes tinged with purple. Its cypselae, also called achenes, are glabrous and bear a pappus made up of white or straw-colored bristles. This species differs from plants in the genus Luina by having fewer florets per head, and by its racemiform capitulescence instead of the corymbiform capitulescence seen in Luina.
