About Quercus toumeyi Sarg.
Quercus toumeyi, commonly called the Toumey oak, is a North American tree species belonging to the beech family. Its range spans northwestern Mexico and the southwestern United States, growing specifically in Sonora, Chihuahua, Arizona, New Mexico, and the extreme westernmost tip of Texas – specifically the Franklin Mountains north of El Paso. This species is a deciduous or subevergreen shrub or small tree. Its bark is dark gray, almost black. Its leaves are unusually small for an oak, rarely exceeding 3 centimetres (1+1⁄4 inches) in length; the upper leaf surface is green and shiny, while the underside is dull gray.
