This species is native to southern China, specifically growing in the regions of Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Taiwan, and Yunnan. It is classified in the genus Quercus subgenus Cerris, section Cyclobalanopsis. It is a tree that can reach up to 17 meters in height. Its twigs are covered in orange-brown hairs, and its leaves can grow up to 14 centimeters in length.
