About Quercus lusitanica Lam.
Quercus lusitanica is a stoloniferous shrub that is usually prostrate, and grows to less than 3 meters in height. It is native to the Iberian Peninsula—specifically Portugal, western Andalusia in Spain, and occurs rarely in Galicia—and Morocco. It is commonly found in association with oak and pine forests, and grows well in acidic soils. It prefers mild coastal Mediterranean climates, but also grows successfully in moist, mild maritime climates. It is relatively sensitive to cold temperatures, and is hardy down to −8 °C (18 °F). It grows on sandy or gravelly soils at elevations up to 600 m (2,000 ft).
