About Quercus gravesii Sudw.

Quercus gravesii Sudw., commonly known as Chisos red oak or Grave's oak, is an uncommon North American oak species belonging to the red oak section Quercus section Lobatae. This species is native to Mexico and the United States. It is a deciduous tree that can reach up to 13 metres (43 feet) in height. Its leaves are hairless, with 3 to 5 pointed, awned lobes, and it has black bark. It is closely related to the shumard oak and emory oak. It occurs in three separate areas in southwest Texas, including Big Bend National Park, and in the mountain ranges of the adjacent Mexican state of Coahuila.
