About Quercus brandegeei Goldman
Quercus brandegeei Goldman is a rare Mexican oak species classified in the family Fagaceae, genus Quercus, and section Virentes. It has only been documented growing in the southern portion of the State of Baja California Sur, located in northwestern Mexico. This species is an evergreen tree that can reach up to 20 metres (66 feet) in height. Its leaves are elliptical and unlobed, with leaf blades growing up to 65 millimetres (2+1⁄2 inches) long. Leaves taper at both ends; leaf margins sometimes lack teeth entirely, while other leaves bear a small number of pointed teeth. The habitat of Quercus brandegeei is restricted exclusively to stream-side locations. It is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List, and is threatened by long-term climatic drying and habitat loss.
