About Quercus boyntonii Beadle

Quercus boyntonii Beadle, commonly known as Boynton sand post oak or Boynton oak, is a rare North American oak species that belongs to the beech family. Currently, this species is only found growing in Alabama; historical records indicate it previously also grew in Texas. It is a rare, poorly understood species that grows as a shrub or small tree. It can sometimes reach a height of 6 meters (20 feet), but most individuals are smaller. The leaves of Quercus boyntonii are dark green, hairless, and shiny on the upper surface, and covered in dense gray hairs on the underside.
