About Qualea parviflora Mart.

Qualea parviflora Mart. is a plant species that grows up to 8 m (26 ft) in height. It flowers from September through December. Each of its flowers has one light purple petal, one stamen, a spurred calyx, and a three-parted ovary. This species, commonly called pau-terra, can be told apart from its close relative Qualea multiflora by its smaller flowers. In its ecology, the species' flowers are pollinated by bees. Buprestid beetles and small Hymenoptera species eat its seeds. Caterpillars of the dalcerid moth Dalcera abrasa feed on Qualea parviflora.
