About Pyrrhia umbra (Hufnagel, 1766)
Technical description and variation: Pyrrhia umbra has a wingspan of 27–35 mm, and its forewings measure 16–19 mm in length. From the base to the outer line, the forewings are deep olive yellow, faintly dusted with dark tone; beyond the outer line, the terminal area is purplish grey, and pales toward the termen. The lines on the forewings are bright brown. The inner line is angled inwards on the veins and outwards between them. The outer line is stronger, oblique and slightly sinuous starting from the subcostal bend, and is generally followed by a purplish-grey shade. The median shade is bent on the median vein. The submarginal line is lunulate-dentate and dark brown, and the area beyond it is often golden brown. The orbicular and reniform markings match the base ground color of the forewing, with brown outlines and brownish centers; the claviform marking only has an outline. The hindwing is straw yellow, with a broad black terminal border, a dark cellspot, and a pale fringe. The aberration ab. marginata is a paler yellow form, with a paler termen on both wings and a prominent dark center of the reniform stigma. A rare aberration with a darkened base of the forewing is called rutilago Haw.
