About Pyrrhia exprimens (Walker, 1857)

Pyrrhia exprimens, commonly known as the purple-lined sallow, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first described by entomologist Francis Walker in 1857. Within North America, it is distributed from Newfoundland and Labrador west across southern Canada to southern Vancouver Island, and ranges south to Texas, Arizona, and California. Outside North America, the species occurs in Finland, the West Siberian Plain, the South Siberian Mountains, and Kazakhstan. The wingspan of Pyrrhia exprimens measures between 35 and 38 mm. Adult moths are active in flight from May to August. The larvae of this species feed on Polygonum species, Aconitum septentrionale, and a wide variety of other plants.
