Pyrola elliptica Nutt. is a plant that reaches 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) in height. It has 5-petaled white flowers, and somewhat elliptical leaves with petioles shorter than the leaf blade. It grows in dry woods and forests, and blooms from June through August. Its native range covers most of southern Canada, most of the northern United States, and a portion of the southwestern United States.
