Pyrgus scriptura, commonly known as the small checkered skipper, is a species of skipper butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species ranges from Texas north to Montana, and is also found in southeastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan. The wingspan of adult small checkered skippers measures 16 to 22 mm. This species produces two generations annually, with active adults occurring from May through August. The larvae of Pyrgus scriptura feed on species in the plant family Malvaceae, and specifically on Sida hederacea.
