About Pyrausta orphisalis Walker, 1859

Pyrausta orphisalis, commonly known as the orange mint moth or orange-spotted pyrausta, is a moth species belonging to the family Crambidae. Francis Walker first described this species in 1859. In North America, its distribution ranges from Newfoundland west to British Columbia, and extends south to Florida and New Mexico. The wingspan of adult individuals measures approximately 15 to 17 mm. Depending on the location, adult moths are active from mid-June to late July. The larvae of this species feed on a range of different mint species, including plants of the genus Monarda.
