Pyrausta onythesalis is a species of moth that belongs to the family Crambidae. This species was first described by Francis Walker in 1859. It is native to North America, where it has been recorded across a range from Florida to Georgia, and also in Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arizona. The wingspan of adult Pyrausta onythesalis measures between 17 and 21 millimeters. The exterior line and a broad submarginal band on its wings are purplish red. Adult individuals of this species have been recorded in flight from March through October.
