About Punctelia missouriensis Wilhelm & Ladd

Punctelia missouriensis, commonly called the mealy speckled shield lichen, is a foliose lichen species belonging to the family Parmeliaceae. It grows on tree bark and rocks, and is native to the southeastern United States. Within this region, it occurs in the tallgrass prairie biome of the U.S. Interior Highlands. In this area, it grows regularly on oak tree trunks in open prairie and open savanna environments, and also on partially shaded siliceous rock faces. While it has previously been reported to grow in South America, analysis of the reported specimens confirmed they were actually Punctelia punctata instead.
