About Pulmonaria rubra Schott

Pulmonaria rubra, commonly known as red lungwort, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Boraginaceae. It is native to the Carpathian and Balkan Mountains, and has been introduced to central Europe and Great Britain. This clump-forming perennial grows to a height of 40 cm (16 in), and produces flowers from late winter through spring. It is readily available from commercial plant suppliers. The Royal Horticultural Society recognizes it as a good plant for attracting pollinators. Per information from the Missouri Botanical Garden, Pulmonaria rubra is resistant to deer herbivory and to black walnut toxicity, it is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 8, and it is recommended for growing in shady locations.
