Nomenclature and Taxonomy

Pulchrana laterimaculata, commonly called the side-spotted swamp frog, is a species of true frog belonging to the family Ranidae.

Malay Peninsula Distribution

Its distribution ranges across the Malay Peninsula, from southernmost Thailand through Malaysia to Singapore.

Insular Distribution

It is also found in Sarawak on the island of Borneo, and on Natuna Besar, an island located in the Indonesian sector of the South China Sea.

Habitat

This frog species lives in lowland freshwater and peat swamp forests.

Mating Call Behavior

Males produce their mating calls from leaf litter on the forest floor, or from perches on low vegetation less than one meter above ground.

Habitat Tolerance

The species is locally abundant in habitats that suit it, and can also live in disturbed areas adjacent to intact, healthy forest.

Threats

However, it does face local population impacts from habitat loss.

It is thought to occur within several protected areas.
