About Puccinia liliacearum Duby
Puccinia liliacearum is a species of fungus that commonly occurs as a rust infection on Ornithogalum species. It is a microcyclic rust species that does not produce aecia or uredinia. This species was first collected from the bark of an unknown Liliaceae species and from Ornithogalum umbellatum in France. It was published and formally described by Jean Étienne Duby (1798–1885) in 1830. Puccinia liliacearum is common across Europe and Asia, and has been introduced to North America. In the United States, the first recorded occurrences of the species were in New York in 1971 and Pennsylvania in 1972. Since those first records, it has spread south to Maryland and east to Indiana.
