About Puccinellia distans (Jacq.) Parl.

Puccinellia distans (Jacq.) Parl. is a grass species commonly called weeping alkaligrass and European alkali grass. It is native to Europe, and is currently found across most of North America, where it may be an introduced species. This grass grows in moist habitats, most often in areas with saline soils, including the edges of roads that have been salted in winter. It is a perennial herb that produces hollow stems reaching a maximum height of 40 to 60 centimeters. Its inflorescence is a spreading arrangement of branches, with the lower branches curving downward. The branches hold several rough-haired spikelets that contain the plant's flowers.
